The Plant Encyclopedia was created to make learning about plants simple, thorough, and accessible. Instead of searching through countless sources for different pieces of information, the goal is to bring everything together in one place.

Each plant entry explores more than just the basics. From scientific classification and plant anatomy to growing requirements, varieties, uses, toxicity, and common problems, the Plant Encyclopedia is designed to give gardeners, students, plant enthusiasts, and curious readers a comprehensive look at the plants around them.

As the encyclopedia continues to grow, so will the number of plants, varieties, articles, and resources available. The goal is to create a resource where anyone can discover a plant and leave truly understanding it.

The Founder

Hi! My name is Madeleine Babb and I’m a highschooler who is really interested and passionate about horticulture and all things plants! I was inspired to create the Plant Encyclopedia when I was searching online and realized I had to piece together information about plants from what felt like fifty million different sources. I wanted to be able to explore everything from a plant’s science and history to its characteristics, varieties, and how to actually grow it, all in one place. So, I decided to create the resource I had been looking for: the Plant Encyclopedia.
